A new chapter in an old story.
The story of Veritas Presbytery belongs to a much longer history of ministers and elders seeking to remain faithful to Scripture and the Reformed heritage.
On August 19, 2024, five ministers in good standing of Second Presbytery of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church gathered in Greenwood, South Carolina, along with elder representatives from three former ARP churches to form Veritas Presbytery, an independent and unaffiliated presbytery.
The founding ministers—Tony Locke, John Paul Marr, Peter Waid, Mark Wright, and Seth Yi—looked to the history of the Associate Presbytery of Scotland, organized at Gairney Bridge near Kinross on December 6, 1733. Ebenezer Erskine, James Fisher, William Wilson, and Alexander Moncreiff had seceded from the Church of Scotland and became known as “Seceders.”
That same day, the newly elected Moderator of Veritas Presbytery, the Rev. John Paul Marr, notified the Stated Clerk of Second Presbytery in writing of the transfer and reception of these founding ministers into Veritas Presbytery.
Faithfulness is not a trend.
It is a calling.
Veritas is an independent, unaffiliated presbytery formed by ministers and elder representatives. We honor the historic Presbyterian pattern of shared ecclesiastical life and seek to serve Christ’s church with seriousness, conviction, and humility.
